Natalie Longus - Weekly Artist Post 3

    1.    Jeff Brouws uses a distanced view to of mostly abandoned “urban” inner city areas and public housing. The distanced views seemingly help portray the notion that this happens in most if not every city in America rather than just the area that he is shooting.
    2.    The pictures are about how the popularization of suburbs beginning to rise brought mostly white families from the inner city. Brouws’s pictures show the result of the start of suburbia leading to real estate decline and abandonment not only of houses but also of humanity.
    3.    His pictures drew me in because in every city you will still find traces of what used to be an old nice neighborhood now turned into a run down and struggling one as a result of the impact of the beginning age of suburbia. Or public housing down the street from brand new developments and housing, sky rocketing housing prices, which often leads to the eventual abandonment and destruction of these homes for those residing in them.
