Keri Woodard - Weekly Artist Post

Alexi Hobbs

This artist uses a Mamiya 7 film camera which is supposedly better than a digital for hand holding. Alexi says that "film reads space in a different way, you can feel the air between the lens and the subject". He shoots almost entirely on film cameras because that is what his clients demand.

Alexi Hobbs spends a majority of his time traveling which is clear to see in his wide range of photographs. There isn't a lot of description to go with his pictures, but I think the idea is to keep you looking. He really focuses on natural lighting with splashes of intense color.

It's easy to see how beautiful these pictures are, but there are little things that draw your eyes to certain focal points. For example, the top picture is primarily red but the viewer can easily see the shadows in the hand and on the wall that makes you want to look. The other two pictures have a deeper depth of field, but still visually interesting. The middle photo brings the viewers eyes to the flowers in the foreground and the mist in the background. I find myself looking back at these photographs more than once and his other pictures are equally as amazing.
