Brianna Ivey- Weekly Artist Post 10

Céline Bodin

1. In french photographer Céline Bodin work "The Line". Céline chose to use women that she already knew to be her subject.  Bodin had the women to pose in their mother's wedding dress. Some of the mothers was touched that their daughters wore their dresses and others was protective of the garments and was hesitate to volunteer their wedding dresses. The women without being told, took a humbled stance while wearing the dresses subconsciously believing that the dresses demanded reverence.

2. Céline Bodin said that the photographs was about mother and daughter making years seem like a moment.  Throughout the years, women's philosophy about marriage shifted.  Once, women was expected to marry and have families at a certain time and now women are choosing when or if they will get married and gave families of their own. Girls are raised and taught to "fantasize" their wedding day. By wearing their mother's dresses, they are using their mother as a vessel to explore their own womanhood.

3. I like how Céline made her photographs clean and white, so that she would not take away from the girls and the dresses. To me these photos also represent "virginity" because white symbolizes pure and she uses a white background and floor. Céline could have did the typical "wedding photo", but she kept it simple and clean which I like. These photos give me a vintage feel as well as snow white because of the women's pale complexion.
