Weekly Artist Post- Darsey Renz

What are the artist's technical choices?

Merolla manipulates light and reflection to create surreal photographs. They have very organic, realistic qualities but it is combined with a dreamlike aura. Her compositions usually involve various lines and directions. Merolla's light and dark contrast, ability to get a perfect reflection at the exact right moment, and involvement of lines and shapes create a great sense of balance, unity, contrast, and ease.

What are the artist's conceptual and/or thematic intents?

Merolla's compositions show the world in a completely different way. We, as humans, are constantly on the go and miss out on beautiful things that the world creates around us. Merolla captures those moments and puts them right in front of the viewer's face. Life is too short not to know about these beautiful hidden little natural creations.

How do you respond to these choices and intents?

These compositions makes me want to go out in the world and look more closely at everything around me. It creates this need to try and capture these moment myself, with or without a camera. Merolla's work makes you realize what you miss, and they are so simple but so necessary.
