Brianna Ivey-Protrait/Landscape

Alec Soth

Landscape: Alec Soth made this picture in the afternoon after a snow storm. I believed what made Soth to make this landscape picture was the beautiful colors of the house and how the clothes on the clothing line is going in the same direction as the trees in the background. The picture and colors draw your eyes to move across the scene due to the clothes and house being the same color.

Portrait: I think the red color of the wall and the purple color of the couch and floor inspire Soth to take this portrait with these two women. The two women are engage with one another with their legs crossing and toes pointing in different directions and the woman in light blue night gown hand behind the brunette. I think that Soth had these two women pose in this manner to make the photograph more dynamic than had he position them side by side. The blue in the blanket on the couch brings out the blue in the brunette's nightgown. Even though the women are in the middle of the scene, the picture is not just about them.
