Keri Woodard - Weekly Artist Post

ADAM GARELICK

This New York artist is Adam Garelick who mainly photographs night time city-scapes and street photography with some portraits. He uses a film camera and develops the negatives by hand with little tweaking. Adam states "there is an imperfection in film that I think distinguishes each image, and which confirms the uniqueness of each subject".

Garelick strictly sticks to black and white images to enhance the form and light. Also, intends to capture New York's "visual richness". Rarely ever capturing people in his photographs, Adam gives a sense of emptiness and tall shadows with the silence of a normally overpopulated city.

Adam Garelick is a great inspiration for where I would love my personal photography level to be. I know I am very far off, but they are just incredible it's hard not to be impressed. These photos are only a glimpse into what this artist has done. Although, seeing all of the city-scape pictures of New York side by side in the online portfolio is what really caught my eye about this photographer. Individually each picture is interesting with dark shadows, intense lighting, and overall just visually interesting, but seeing them all together in the portfolio is like a story.
