Kellen Clarke- Weekly Artist Post

Heather Evans Smith

1. Award winning photographer Heather Evan Smith is known for her portrait photography and fine art. Each piece of work that she makes has a meaning or a story behind it. Unsure what type of camera she uses, her work is made to look effortless with what media is chosen. The effortless look comes from Heather's choice to make her art real and storytelling.

2. Heather Evan Smith is a mother and composed the collection called, Seen Not Heard. The meaning behind the photographs is to show the silent impact in a child's young life. She connects the parent to child bond throughout the images. In the beginning of the collection the last line says, "forever bond between mother and daughter is, there also exist a distance inherent between two different individuals." That final statement in the piece is what is shown through it all.

3. I never thought about the statement, Seen Not Heard, in the context Heather has created. That to me shows the creativeness she has in her mind. Taking something so simple and overlaying a topic that is not touched upon often, makes for a compelling collection. Each image is so simple but you don't see simple when you look at it. Theres are a layer of darkness with the brightness of the subject ever so slightly.
