Ryan Jennings Weekly Artist (portrait/landscape)

Gregory Halpern

Landscape - Gregory did a great job capturing this scene.  It looks like it was taken in the afternoon while kids are off of school playing in the snow.  He did a great job with the color balance and having subtle touches of color through the scene.  I also like the balance from one side to the other with the aligning of the trees.  The center hill matches perfectly with the top of the tree and being in the center provides a focal point that leads you into the rest of the image.

Portrait - In this photo he centers the subject but then adds in the two hands from someone of a different skin color to give contrast between the two but acts as a line to the center subject being the elderly woman.  The color contrast is so smooth and RED just jumps out at you.  It starts with the shirt, leads into the browns in the bracelet, continues to the nails and it takes you around the red hair and ends at the lips.  I think he did a great job with his subject and really captures the happiness in her.
