Breotnie Nichols - Portrait/Landscape

Colin Gray

In Colin Gray's portrait he focuses on light contrast. The shadows intensify the subject's face. It illuminates her face. The photo is more about the light contrast than the subject. The dark brown background adds to the light contrast. The girl's hair blends into the background, which further envelops her in the shadows. The dark background also allows the colors to stand out, bringing the viewer's eyes to the red circle the girl is holding.

The city landscape features brilliant color contrast with a mixture of blues and oranges. This image would not have been as interesting if it were not shot at night. The lights would not have been illuminated and the brilliance of this image would have been lost. I appreciate the view that Colin Gray has chosen. Choosing a higher vantage point added more interest to the image.
