Brandon Baker Artist Post 5

Tamara Lischka

1. Tamara Lischka is a portland artist and photographer who's curiosity as a child led her to create this gallery. When visiting the cite, I found that the name of this gallery was "Important things". She has been known to use the human body in majority of her work, twisting and contorting  them to add effect and meaning. This time she has only incorporated hands, but holding fetuses of different life forms. Each photo was published in black and white, to give contrast and focus to the objects within the palms.

2. When asked about the inspiration of the piece, Ms. Lischka said it was one of curiosity. A curiousness that most humans have but will not entertain. She contrasts the grotesqueness of fetuses' physical form with the way that the hands are holding them, as if they were in fact babies made of gold. Originally the photos may make the viewer uncomfortable when trying to recognize what the hands are holding. But that is negated when the security and sincerity of the hands are noticed.

3. I became interested in the gallery when I noticed that the objects were fetuses. I find it neat that they are so fragile when first entering the world, that have to be incubated in an almost top security facility. The innocence that comes with them will always spark curiosity.
