Cory Hogan - Artist Post #4

William Eggleston

1.) William Eggleston is known for how well he has mastered color photography. Eggleston is not usually known for the portraits he takes which is why this series of pictures picked are so different from his usual pictures. These pictures were made almost 50 years ago yet they still seem very modern.

2.) William Eggleston aims to show attitudes and personalities through color. In all of these pictures the colors seem so saturated yet in a tasteful way. In the first picture you can see a lady laying on grass, in the second image there is an older lady sitting on a bright floral couch, and the third picture is of a man pushing carts while the sunlight is spanning across his face creating such intriguing tones.

3.) The colors in these pictures are so interesting to me, they seem very saturated and the light somewhat over exposed yet the colors also look faded. This creates a very interesting "vibe" across all of the pictures in this work. Eggleston took random everyday people and managed to make them seem dramatic and interesting through how the colors look and how the lighting affects the picture. They also give us such little information about the people in the pictures yet I feel that I have no questions about them.
