Grant Layne - Artist Post 2

Hellen Levitt

Levitt is a predominantly black and white photographer until she started photographing in color.  She shot her slides using Ekta-graphic for its high speed and versatility; it was also economical, allowing her to take many pictures in the same space over a relative short period of time.

Levitt believes that color brings out another aspect of peoples lives and their lived environments.  As opposed to black and white, she saw colored photography as a "more real" meaning of contemporary life.  Color is a very important element in art and photography that can evoke a lot of emotion and Levitt definitely uses this to help her make pictures.

Opposed to black and white pictures, I believe it is evident that colored pictures capture life in a vivd way.  The viewer has a better since of time, weather, temperature and more natural observations that signify life, which makes for a beautiful picture.
