Sarah Ipson - Artist post 5

Jim Jocoy

1.  Jim Jocoy did a series of photos taken on the streets of San Francisco and L.A. of the punk rock community in reference to their attire and attitude towards life. These photos were usually taken at a straightforward angle with a little pose by the subject that looked like made themselves feel comfortable or more at ease of being photographed. With the subjects being able to pose and being more of themselves it made the photos seem a bit more natural, instead of just the more dark and somber feelings that arise from backgrounds, clothing, and general facial expressions of the subjects.

2. Jay Jocoy's intent was to show the viewers the lifestyle look of the punk rock community of the 1970's and 80's on the streets of San Francisco and L.A.. He wanted to be able to display the edgy and layer filled styles with less complex, but still have emotion being brought in to the photos. All of the photos of the series appear to be taken at night time with a flash on to add to a more dramatic effect.

3. The feeling I get when looking at these is somewhat uncomfortable, but at the same time, it gives me a curious and analytical feeling. With feeling uncomfortable this draws me in to the picture and makes me curious as to why I am lead to feeling that way and causes me to look at the smaller details of the picture. There are the dramatic look on the models faces and they were trying to look upset or dramatic. I feel like part of it is also how the models just as uncomfortable posing for the photo as I do looking at it, so maybe that is why it gravitates more towards the uncomfortable side of things.
