Meaghan Mozingo - Artist Post 5

Leonie Hampton

1) The above pictures are from Leonie Hampton's Collection titled In The Shadow of Things. Hampton started her career at age seven with a Le Click camera. Now she uses a more sophisticated  camera and her work has been presented internationally. Hampton runs a non profit Still/Moving where she offers workshops in film and photography.

2) Hampton's inspiration for this collection was helping her mother deal with her Hoarding and OCD. Hampton's mother's house was filled with boxes and junk, but to her mother memories, investments, and stuff kept safe and clean packed neatly in boxes. Hampton documented the unpacking and getting rid of all the "stuff". Hampton's pictures portrays the lonliness and suffocation associated with these disorders.

3) Hampton uses a variety of aperture speeds allowing differing depths of field to help tell the story. To create a sense of reality in her photos, Hampton works with the natural lighting found in each specific environment. Her photos are well balanced and rich in texture. Hampton finds the raw intimacy and insecurities of hoarding and OCD within this entire collection. I highly recommend that you checkout her collection.
