Jennifer Maddox weekly artist post 4

Eolo Perfido

What are the artist's technical choices?
Perfido used the common hear of clowns and played with it. He took some creepy photos that would have anyone who is scared of clowns not to happy, but then he took some like the last that are humorous. The backgrounds are dark to draw attention to the white on the people. He also adds red i feel not only because it is typically a circus/ clown color association but also to draw attention and compliment the dark.

What are the artist's conceptual and/or thematic intents?

Perfido focuses on the horror asspect of clowns and the fear that comes from them as the focus of his work, Clownville. Even in his more humorous photo, the look alike Hitler, he is using a symbol of great horror but turning it into a clown as well.

How do you respond to these choices and intents?

I enjoy his photos because they do address the fear of clowns. Which has always been ironic to me because clowns are suppose to bring happiness but instead usually install the opposite. I like how the photos can be funny and then some are disturbing.
