Grace Herion - weekly artist post

Roe Ethridge

Roe Ethridge uses colorful images with several layers of subjects. He under- or over-exposes in order to emphasize what the viewer should be looking at.

In this series, Ethridge uses images and props to "engage [his] 'relationship with his mother.'" "Irony and contract" are prevalent. But the photos seem to lack emotion, despite what one would expect from a subject involving family.

I am confused by Ethridge's series. I feel like I'm missing something. However, this series was accompanied by a written piece and perhaps that holds something that would make more sense of the photos. The images seem... almost silly.
