Weekly Artist Post

Carlo Mollino

What are the artist's technical choices?

Most of Mollino's polaroids focus on women and the beauty of their bodies. His compositions are very light and lack a lot of saturation. The background he uses are very neutral, almost blending with the models' bodies. The models are either centered, or sprawled across the entirety of the composition creating balance. The techniques Mollino uses create unified compositions.

What are the artist's conceptual and/or thematic intents?

Mollino's compositions emphasize women and their bodies. Each one usually focuses on one sensual area, be it the vagina, breasts, or butt. In modern day culture, if women are proud of their sexuality, it is usually frowned upon. The words "slut," "promiscuous," and "trashy," are often used to describe women. Mollino embraces the woman body and embraces empowered women who are confident and proud of their body. The woman body is a beautiful thing, and with artist's like Mollino creating, they can become monumental, even Godly.

How do you respond to these choices and intents?

Mollino's compositions work well. They are natural, raw, and absolutely stunning. Mollino takes the woman body and shows it as the masterpiece that is, without apologizing.
