SHANE AMBROSE weekly artist

In these pictures, Christopher Rimmer portrays the cattle of Pondoland along the coast of South Africa making their daily trip to the ocean.  Rimmer displays his acumen in color contrast remarkably with the beautiful black, brown, and even white, hair of the cattle against the soft blues of the ocean water.  The first two images also have a sense of symmetry within them, while the last photograph contains great diagonals to move your eyes through the image-- all displaying excellent compositional qualities.

In these photos Rimmer has attempted to embody the 'somewhat surprising' humanlike qualities that he observed of these animals.  The main theme being their appreciation for the water and its cleansing power physically as well as spiritually.

I think Rimmer has done a great job communicating his thoughts about the purity of the cattle.  The photographs of the cattle peacefully standing in the water with their reflections, perfectly depicts the emotional power the water has on the animals.  I particularly like the photograph of them walking towards the shoreline because of the apparent motion it portrays to the viewer suggesting their long and worthwhile journey to the water.
