Cory Hogan - Artist Post #8

Patrick Joust

1.) Patrick Joust is a photographer that enjoys making pictures throughout areas in Baltimore. Majority of his pictures are made with a horizontal framing which seems to be a 5:4 ratio. Joust prefers going out to make pictures at night which requires a higher ISO that adds an interesting grain to his photos.

2.) Joust says he prefers to make pictures at night because scenes seem to "come alive". He walks around town until he comes up to a fairly lit area. Joust uses darker shadows and interesting unnatural lights to give his pictures liveliness. His images in this project seem to show this sense of loneliness since there is such little movement and interaction throughout the images.

3.) These images have such an interesting vibe to them. They all have a sense of mystery and loneliness because of the atmosphere in the images. I love the lighting choices he made in these, for example, in the last image the picture has this blue aura to it and the other images have different colored lights as well. The images also seem so quiet because they look so very still.
