Jessica Manno - Artist Post 11

Andres Tsonidis

1. Andres Tsonidis is both a photographer and psychotherapist, adding to his photos a unique interpretation of the meaning behind the subjects of his photos. Tsonidis takes his photos in both color, also taking into account of how light and shadow will affect the overall tone of pictures. Several pictures within his projects are taken in both a vertical and horizontal frame.

2. Tsonidis is intrigued by the idea of capturing identity and connectedness, with many of the people in his pictures being people in his life as well as self portraits. His occupation as a psychotherapist also correlates to his desires of what he wants to capture. With his collection "Returning Home", he states, "Very often, the moments that I wanted to capture were instances of individuality, set against the backdrop of intimate relationships and strong emotional bonds." Tsonidis has three other collections of photographs, all with similar styles that maintain his take on what he finds inspiring and beautiful through being a man who has experienced many people in his lifetime overcome mental and emotional troubles.

3. I was taken by the mystery of Tsonidis' photos through an article I found on lenscratch.com. I felt the photos were in a weird sense, poetic. When I got to learn of Tsonidis' other profession, and how he likes to mix two and two together, it made more sense. The first photo in this blog post was featured on the article. The contrast between a colorful flower pattern and a dead baby animal was shocking, but in a strange way, artistically appealing. Looking through all of his photos, they all have their own unique way of representing something deeper and relatable to people and to life, which has made me a new fan of Andres Tsonidis' work.
