Turjoy Chowdhury used the everyday realities of the people in Kolkata, India that live in a dump ground for interesting subject matter.His images appear to be underexposed with hard shadows that set the mood in his photography. Chowdhury makes pictures of people in their natural environment and enhances his images by creating dynamic angles.
In these images, there does not seem to be a specific concept or theme. Turjoy Chowdhury was just trying to reveal the struggle of every day life in these conditions. Especially with the first picture, the lady is taking a bath and there is still flies perched on her as though she was a part of the wasteland. The pictures he makes is an eye opener upon the less fortunate.
I was impressed by these dynamic images. His emphasis and subject matter would make any viewer want to look at the others from the collection. Even though he places his subject in the center, he balances it out with his framing.
