Cory Hogan - Artist Post 2

1.) Melissa Kaseman is a mother of a 5-year old child. Everyday after school her son comes home with things in his pockets so she photographs them. These photos from this project are framed horizontally. Kaseman uses with a 2:3 ratio for these pictures.

2.) This project, titled Preschool Pocket Treasures, allows the photographer to create art along with the help of her son, Calder. Kaseman states that photographing these things helps cherish the curiosity of childhood. She neatly arranges each of the items from her sons pockets and photographs them from a birds-eye view over a white background.

3.) As someone who tries to stay creative and original, I felt that this series was very much more than just pictures of random things. Kaseman's 5-year-old son looks at the world differently because he's still a child. Children look at the world and see little objects that most people find boring and useless but a child sees them as much more and want to keep them. It's also interesting that these are just random objects but when arranged very neatly and well lit they help make beautiful pictures.
