1.) Matthew Pilsbury uses long exposures to record in small increments. He didn't use any added light source to capture shots in series. Most of this series is in black and white but i really liked the color ones best.
2.) He sets up his tripod throughout Tokyo in busy common areas like parks, train stations, and malls. He captures fast paced movement. When you look at all three pictures above it's as if Pilsbury captures ghosts or souls. It's both erie and fascinating! I was immediately drawn to all the lines and shapes. This series highlights the fast pace of Tokyo as well as their advancement in technology. So many people passing each other connecting through technology but disconnected in reality.
3.) While looking through the rest of his series I notice the ones in color seem more painterly. I like the viewpoint he is expressing. Modern day technology has advanced us so much but has so many setbacks. You can see the disengagement at very early ages or attend a dinner and everyone is on social media chatting instead of enjoying the moment and company they are with.
